It's been quiet here for a few weeks. I want to be honest about why, because the reason turned out to be the lesson.
I ran out of prepared things to say. And instead of rushing to fill the silence, I let it sit. Somewhere in those weeks I understood that the silence wasn't a gap between the work. It was the work. The next video I'm recording is about integration — and apparently I needed to live a small round of it before I could speak about it.
Here's the thing I keep meeting, in myself and in the people I sit with.
I know a man who spent years holding others. Skilled, devoted, genuinely good at it. And somewhere along the way he decided that being strong for people meant never being a person in front of them. The professional never flinched. Years of being the one who holds — and no one ever held him, because he never let anyone see there was something to hold.
It caught up with him, the way it always does. Not loudly. A slow running-dry, until one day the honest sentence finally came out: I have the work, and nothing else.
When he said it plainly, I didn't give him advice. I made space — and told him that when he's ready, I'd like to know him as a person, not a function. That was all. That was everything.
Because here's the reframe I want to leave you with this week: the part of you that you hide in order to look strong is the exact part that connects you to other people. Your humanity isn't the crack in the professional surface. It's the door in it.
The helpers, the parents, the ones everyone leans on — they don't burn out from too much giving. They burn out from never being allowed to receive. And the permission has to start somewhere. Usually with one honest sentence, to one safe person.
The journey gives you the sight. The year after — the slow, unphotogenic, nobody-claps part — is where it becomes a life. That's what the next video is about. It's the one idea this whole work stands on, and I'll send it to you when it's live.
If this helped you, share it with someone it might help too.
